“The spark inside my heart starts to glow and burst into flame”

Mark Trichka and Lisa Brande have been entertaining Baba lovers for decades with their uplifting bluegrass music. In this lively video, the couple tells how they each came to Baba despite not being drawn to religion when young. They also share some remarkable experiences. In Meherazad, Mani dubbed Mark the “Mandolin Walla” after he played for Mehera. At one point, Baba came to Lisa in a dream and said, “I am not this body.” They have spent the last 40 years living in Florida and Vermont and traveling around sharing their inspiring, foot-tapping music.

BuffalOz Musical Performance

Several Baba Lover musicians from the New York area started jamming together on Zoom during the Pandemic. They informally became The Buffalos. The original group expanded to include musicians from other parts of America and Australia as well, thus changing their name to The BuffalOZ. The ensemble annually reunites at the Meher Spiritual Center to share their collaborative music. This year, a septet blessed the Meeting Place with a lively, high-energy performance of originals, covers and Baba classics.

Celebrating a Sacred Legacy

This uplifting evening is a celebration of the early spirituals that emerged from slave communities as well as a tribute to Happy Club, its founders and the Phoenix Renaissance Community that emerged from it. During His visit in 1958, Meher Baba asked to hear a recording of Marian Anderson singing ‘He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands’ as well as ‘Let My People Go.’ In the late 1980s, Cathy Riley collected 120 songs from Sumter County African American seniors. This concert is a commemoration of those powerful songs. Spirituals were also a part of the Happy Club legacy. After it was established in the late 1960s, Reverend Lee, his wife and their 10 children would come sing Gullah songs for and with the Happy Club kids, at Thanksgiving time and sometimes at Christmas time, too.
